Community Event: Cinco de Mayo 2008

Submitted on April 24, 2008 by Inde

GLOBAL COMMUNITY HOSTED EVENT FOR ALL GUILD WARS PLAYERS: CINCO de MAYO 2008!

Spring: ''the year breathes anew with life, festivals and rejoicing of warm days and starry nights. So too comes the annual recognition of the most celebrated holiday in the Southern Hemisphere of the Americas; Cinco de Mayo – the officially recognized date of Mexican independence from French taxation of property in Mexico. Today Cinco de Mayo is date which is celebrated throughout the Americas with the abundance of poured spirits including beer, ale and most notably Tequila.''

It is appropriate then that the holiday be adopted and celebrated in the Guild Wars community. The Guilds of [LaZy] Nation are proud to adopt the holiday and host the first Guild Wars global event to celebrate Cinco de Mayo for all those who hail from the lands of Tyria, Cantha and Elona. The pyramid ruins and land of the Asurans most closely match the mystic theme emboldened in historic civilizations from the Southern Americas; including the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans whose empires once bridged across the lands today known as Mexico.

Where: [Rata Sum] (International Districts)
When: Saturday, May 3rd, 2008
Time: The event starts at 4PM EST (8PM/20:00 GMT) and will end two hours later

Find out more in the event thread located in our Guild Announcements and Events forum here: CINCO de MAYO 2008! Global Community Event hosted by [LaZy]

The Royal Family Masquerade Ball 2008

Submitted on April 18, 2008 by Inde

The Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball is a long forgotten formal event, engraved into history years before the searing. The Ascalon Royal Family led by King Adelbern was once a prosperous kingdom, and the ball was the yearly celebration to celebrate the wealthy and beauty that was Ascalon. But alas, The Searing as it has come to be known shattered the hearts of men in the kingdom of Ascalon. The ball for the past 4 years has been forgotten. Deux Du Machina, in his travels, stumbled upon an old text depicting a dance festival of epic proportions in the kingdom of Ascalon of old. Intrigued, he did further research. After painstaking tasks, Deux begged the wealthiest of the lords of Ascalon and surrounding kingdom of Kryta to donate what they saw fit to bring back this beautiful festival. The time of the Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball has returned, and the hearts of men shall once again be warm and lively! Let the festivities commence!

The Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball is on for 2008!  This event has been highly successful in the past but needs your help. They need donations and staff to help out. Head over to the thread in our Announcements and Events forum here: The OFFICAL THREAD:Ascalon Royal Family Masquerade Ball 08 Returns!

There's a new update for today, March 18th as well as a new article at GuildWars.com concerning Real-Money Trading that you'll want to see.  Some highlights of the update include:
* We are adding the ability to block certain IP addresses from the game. In the coming days and weeks, we will be using this capability to block addresses of RMT companies that heavily abuse the game.
* We are also adding code to detect and block IP addresses that are running an open proxy, so that players cannot mask their real IP address by connecting to the game through an open proxy.

RAWR Cup Announced for April 5th, 2008

Submitted on March 1, 2008 by Inde

The next RAWR Cup date has been officially set. On April 5th, 2008, the second round of the RAWR Cup Title Series will begin, and with it feature more contests, more chances to win, and best of all – more prizes!

Just like the last tournament, the RAWR Cup is designed to offer a competitive experience to players of all skill types. 3 different divisions will cater to a specific skill-type: The Dragon division designed for seasoned players who live and breathe Guild vs. Guild Battles, the Tiger division for those who enjoy spending most of their time roaming and saving Tyria from Grenth and his minions, with a Phoenix division for the players in between.

Prizes this time range from the revolutionary Killer Nic Gaming Network card created to reduce in-game ping and allow players to gain those precious milliseconds needed to conquer the enemy, to in-game minipets such as Ausras and Destroyers to Long Haired Yeti and Oni.

Want more prizes? In addition to rewarding the top finishers of each division, the RAWR Cup will also be giving away other fun prizes, such as a 1-2GB Thumb Drive or extra character slots for your Guild Wars account, to players and teams that win specialized contests and our own version of 'spectator events'. So on top of playing the tournament, you can also
participate in these mini-contests for a greater chance at winning a prize!

Sign up! There's no reason not to! The registration information, full list of prizes, and rule/contest details can be found at the tournament website.

PvXWiki Contest

Submitted on February 3, 2008 by Inde

The good people at PvXWiki are holding a contest.  See details below:

PvXwiki.com is holding a new contest - can you play by our Guild Wars Limited rules?  ArenaNet is known to do amazing things to the world of Guild Wars. Here at PvXwiki, we have taken things one step ahead, introducing our own idea for a future Guild Wars: the Guild Wars: Limited Edition, accessible to all campaigns released thus far. "Why limited?", you may ask. The answer is simple: instead of eight skills, the Guild Wars: Limited Edition only allows players to use five skills on their bar. That's right: Five skills!

It's just like the Guild Wars you're used to - but using only five skill slots. Try your hand at making builds for the Domain of Anguish, Urgoz's Warden, and even Team Areans and Guild Verses Guild battles with these limitations. For the second official PvXwiki contest, we are inviting you to come up with your very own Limited Edition builds with this new restriction. Anyone can enter, and winners will receive excellent prizes courtesy of Razer™. The makers of the three best-working builds will receive limited edition Guild Wars(tm) Razer Deathadder mice! PvXwiki - proudly sponsored by Razer. For Gamers, By Gamers.

Contest Dates: February 3rd - February 24th
