Time to bring Sensenbrenner home

Seldom has a lawmaker insisted on shoving programs down his constituents' throats with the ruthless, slovenly gracelessness of U.S. Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner, the overweight Menomonee Falls slob who allegedly represents the state's 5th Congressional District in Congress but who unquestioningly opposes civil liberties for immigrants and citizens alike. The rude, domineering, food stained, mustard-encrusted, unkempt  wretched right-wing know-it-all has used his inherited wealth to gain office, and lobbyists' perks for travel, while shouting down constituents who try to articulate their concerns. Maybe it's time to redistrict . . .

Big fat slob

Why does Menomonee Falls dump its trash on us?

Sensenbrenner was so hot to get the Patriot Act
renewed he didn't notice the government's 9/11 lies

Whatever her qualities, the way the appointment was conducted and the withholding of records will forever cast doubt on Anderson's legitimacy

Wisconsin legislators are getting nearly three-quarters of their campaign money from people who cannot vote for them, a Democracy Campaign analysis of 2005 legislative fundraising shows.

The money is flowing to power, as the top recipients of contributions from special interests who live outside the districts of those receiving their donations were legislative leaders. Senate Republican leader Dale Schultz raked in the most out-of-district money, relying on outside donors for 80% of his large individual donations. Assembly Republican Majority Leader Mike Huebsch was second, with 89% of his take coming from donors who do not live in his district. Out-of-district donors accounted for 97% of the total raised by Assembly Speaker John Gard, who ranked fourth.

Twelve legislators raised 100% of their large individual contributions from outside special interests. To see how state representatives from your area stack up, go here.

An open letter to UW - Madison Provost Patrick Farrell

Don't censor Dr. Barrett on search for 9/11 truth

July 3, 2006
Dear Provost Farrell:

I was disappointed to read that the university is considering pulling the plug on Dr. Kevin Barrett's course in the department of languages and cultures of Asia because of its content, which questions the government's role in 9/11. As a veteran journalist, a frequent university lecturer and adjunct teacher with Project Censored at California's Sonoma State University, it terrifies me that the concentrated media power of Journal Communications has put Dr. Barrett in its cross hairs; first by the right-wing talk radio host Jessica McBride on the Journal Company's WTMJ-AM on Wednesday; then in the Journal Company's newspaper, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, on Friday; then on Sunday, the Journal Company's dominant Milwaukee television station, WTMJ-TV, channel 4 put Ms. McBride along side its other conservative talk show host, Charlie Sykes, on the show Sunday Insight.

This media company and its employees should not succeed in stopping Dr. Barrett from presenting his research. The only questioning of government in any meaningful way is through the media and through scholarship; that's where inquiry and the search for truth occur. Unfortunately, the company at the head of this onslaught dominates opinion in this state, and it is no surprise that its conservative megaphones want to engage in prior restraint of Dr. Barrett's research, which is critical of the political forces the company so ardently endorses.

Dr. Barrett is not alone in questioning the validity of the government's version of what happened on Sept. 11. Will you deny them all a voice? Is that rigorous inquiry?

Whether Dr. Barrett's research can withstand the scrutiny of intelligent university students and their questions will itself be educational for Barrett and the students; but the lesson learned by denying Dr. Barrett the opportunity to share his outcome reflects on the university, not Dr. Barrett.

Documents do not allay fears board betrayed voters in trustee choice

Click here for applications of all candidates for board appointment

SHOREWOOD, Wis. (June 19, 2006) -- The Village Board said it would skip over that whole democratic election thing and instead trustees would select the best candidate seeking appointment to the trustee position created in April when former Trustee Guy Johnson was elected village president. During a purportedly agonizing discussion recorded by ShorewoodVillage.com, trustees opted to deny unsuccessful trustee candidate Steven Koczela the appointment and to enter into "a process" to find the best possible person to get the village's important work done.

Documents obtained today  from the Village of Shorewood show that the 5-1 vote to select lobbyist Dawn Anderson was not for the candidate with the most education (an attribute Trustee Ellen Eckman thinks gets bonus points); or for the candidate with the best articulated vision; or for the candidate most familiar with the village issues; or for the candidate who attends the most meetings; or for the candidate with skills in finance or engineering or good analytical skills. No, it was for the candidate who brings to the village government expertise in breast cancer, lobbying in Washington and Caribbean travel -- most recently as a Florida employee of Funway/Funjet. And, of course, she stated to trustees that she worked five years for state lawmaker Sheldon Wasserman, who contributes to campaigns of  members of the village board.

Since it is not clear from the documents obtained under state law from the village which qualities Anderson has that make her the best choice, ShorewoodVillage.com today requested under the Wisconsin Open Records Act that village officials turn over all records relating to their decision. More

Village board picks Dawn Anderson to fill vacant trustee seat despite better qualified, more informed apolitical contestants

SHOREWOOD, Wis. (June 12, 2006) -- The village board tonight decided for the residents they have disenfranchised that former hotel and travel industry employee Dawn Anderson should be crowned "Replacement Trustee" to fill the seat of Village President Guy Johnson. Johnson abdicated upon his uncontested ascension in April. The reality show won't be on Fox, but the contestants put on their best faces during a four-hour scripted  interview marathon during which residents were prohibited from asking questions. The contestants were Carol Carr, William Meeker, Richard Taylor, Carl Stehling, Dawn Anderson, Paul Erickson, Joe Mangiamele, Steven Koczela and John Toutenhoofd, who reportedly is out of the country.

Although Trustee Jeff Hanewall, hubby of Bankruptcy Judge Pamela Hanewall, is on the Design Review Board, Village Board, Library Board, state supreme court disciplinary panel for Milwaukee County and hungers apparently for any and all open positions, he was not selected to fill a second board seat at the same time, although "Trustee Hanewall is very dynamic," Trustee Michael Phinney quipped before the game. Hanewall giggled as a furtive Trustee Ellen Eckman whispered in his ear before the game.

Asked to reveal whether any of the trustees had received campaign money from any of the contestants, Johnson said, "That's a public record," but none answered the question.

Pretending that it was just a coincidence that the least qualified contestant won and that there was no consensus before the game began, Johnson called Anderson to let her know she won.

Passed over were Mangiamele, a retired UWM professor of urban planning and advocate for village senior citizens, who attends virtually all board meetings; Koczela, a product of Shorewood schools and a war veteran who has twice run for trustee; and Paul Erickson, a financial planner, former trustee and member of the police commission. Instead, we get a mint on our pillows.

Anderson's letter of application explains she is interested in the Shorewood lifestyle, and, oh, was it mentioned she had a political job working for Sheldon Wasserman, who represents Shorewood in the state assembly?

'Freedom is at the beginning, it is not something to be gained at the end. There is no freedom at the end of compulsion; the outcome of compulsion is compulsion. If you dominate a child, compel him to fit into a pattern, however idealistic, will he be free at the end of it? If we want to bring about a true revolution in education, there must obviously be freedom at the very beginning, which means that both the parent and the teacher must be concerned with freedom and not with how to help the child to become this or that.' -- Scott H. 9/11: Conspiracy theory or false terror?

ROSEMONT, Ill. (June 4, 2006) -- Hundreds of lawyers, physicists, engineers, professors, politicians, journalists and citizens from across the country and Europe convened to demand a renewed look at the unanswered questions about the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Sponsored by 911Truth.org, the three-day event that ended today was ignored by local media although the New York Times sent a reporter from its metropolitan Desk.

The biggest questions on the minds of those who attended were what caused a third tower, known as building 7,to collapse although it was not hit, and why was there a pool of molten iron at the scene when fuel from an airplane allegedly cannot burn hot enough to melt iron.

Many in attendance said they now thought the United States Government was behind the terror attack and are circulating petitions to demand full disclosure of all evidence. Hanewall: Let the cripples crawl

SHOREWOOD, Wis. (May 15, 2006) -- When he was a candidate for village board, Jeff Hanewall said he would represent all residents. But at Monday nights' board meeting, Hanewall argued that rights of way on village sidewalks should be narrowed to four feet to accommodate restaurant owners who want outside tables although citizens restricted to wheelchairs need five feet to turn around.
Earlier in a committee meeting, Hanewall said the village should just adopt a policy "that is easiest for (village) staff."
Although he is on the village board, the library board, the design review committee and on a district committee investigating lawyer corruption, Hanewall, the father of a young child, tried to get appointed as well to a group that would hammer out differences between the Shorewood Business Improvement District and the Pedestrian Safety Committee.
